Pair of three-day race weeks for Santa Anita coming up

ARCADIA, Calif. – After Sunday, Santa Anita will run two Friday-Sunday weeks to start the spring-summer segment of the track’s marathon six-month meeting.
There are two graded stakes planned for that period – the Grade 3 Tokyo City Cup at 1 1/2 miles on dirt April 14 and the Grade 2 Kona Gold Stakes at 6 1/2 furlongs on April 20.
A four-day racing week is scheduled for April 25-28.

There are no plans for a resumption of racing on the hillside turf course in the immediate future, according to Tim Ritvo, chief operating officer of the track’s parent company, The Stronach Group. Ritvo said on Friday that the track has “made no decision” when racing on the hillside will be conducted.
Last Sunday, Arms Runner suffered a fatal injury in the Grade 3 San Simeon Stakes on the hillside turf course, the 23rd horse lost since the start of the meeting ion Dec. 26. Santa Anita briefly closed its main track for inspection and renovation and missed 13 days of racing in March.
Races on the hillside turf course were moved to 6 1/2 furlongs on the main track or to a mile on turf Thursday and Friday. No hillside turf races were scheduled for Saturday or Sunday this weekend.
The spring-summer portion of the meeting concludes June 23. Los Alamitos opens its three-week summer meeting June 27.
