Pair of allowance races top Friday card
RACE REPLAY IS NOT AVAILABLELOUISVILLE, Ky. – A pair of rich allowances, both scheduled for turf, anchor a nine-race Friday card at Churchill. First post is 12:45 p.m. Eastern.
Race 3 is a $101,000 third-level mile in which Stave figures to come favored for trainer Larry Jones. Only as many as six fillies and mares will start if the race stays on the grass.
Race 8 is a $97,000 first-level sprint that drew an oversubscribed field of 3-year-olds and upward. It includes a rematch of an eventful May 10 finale in which Cojete Roho was disqualified for interference in the upper stretch and Vogt was a fast-closing favorite.
◗ The Grade 3, $125,000 Mint Julep for fillies and mares will serve as the highlight of the coming weekend at Churchill with its 43rd running Saturday. Limari and Mom’s On Strike were among the top names expected for the 1 1/16-mile turf race when entries were to be drawn Wednesday. The Mint Julep will precede the simulcast of the Belmont Stakes, which will be shown throughout the Churchill facility.
◗ Fans attending Churchill this weekend should be aware that an NCAA baseball super regional will take place at nearby Jim Patterson Stadium at Third and Central. Game times (all Eastern) are: Friday, noon; Saturday, 3 p.m.; and Sunday (if needed), noon. The best routes to avoid traffic are Taylor Blvd. or Fourth Street.
