Pacific Pink romps in Elge Rasberry

Pacific Pink ran to her 2-5 odds Saturday at Louisiana Downs, where she shuttled to a five length win over Fab Fox in the $75,000 Elge Rasberry. The one-mile turf race for 3-year-old fillies was one of two restricted sales stakes on the program. Cajun Spirit rolled up the rail to take the $75,000 A.L. “Red” Erwin.
The Rasberry and Erwin, which was for 3-year-olds at a mile on turf, closed out the meet at Louisiana Downs.
Pacific Pink ($2.80) sat closer to the pace than usual in the Rasberry, settling in third as Fab Fox took the field through a pressured opening half-mile in 46.82 seconds. Pacific Pink moved closer to the leaders on the final turn as Fab Fox continued on through six furlongs in 1:10.54. In the stretch, Pacific Pink sprinted home to cover the distance on firm ground in 1:34.36.
Alfredo Contreras was aboard for Keith Plaisance and trainer Edward Johnston. Pacific Pink is a daughter of Private Vow and was bred in Louisiana by Brandon Adcock. She was winning the third stakes race of her career in the Rasberry. Pacific Pink has now won 5 of 9 career starts and $231,300.
Cajun Spirit ($6) settled in fourth off the pace in the Erwin, advanced around the final turn, and shot up the inside to win by 1 1/2 lengths over Sir Tiz. Cajun Spirit covered the distance in 1:35.96.
Gerardo Mora, recovered from a spill Friday at Louisiana Downs, was aboard for West Point Thoroughbreds and trainer Dallas Stewart. Cajun Spirit is a son of Bernstein and was bred in Louisiana by Stacey Moak.
