A. P Jet recovery expected

Glenye Cain Oakford|May 10, 2006

A. P Jet, the New York-based stallion injured in an accident that killed another stallion on April 30, was expected to return to Sugar Maple Farm in Poughquag, N.Y., on Friday.

A. P Jet has been in an undisclosed equine veterinary hospital since the accident.

A statement released by Sugar Maple on Wednesday said that "as of today we expect A. P Jet to make a full recovery."

The accident occurred when A. P Jet became fractious while his groom was preparing to turn him out in his paddock. The 17-year-old Fappiano stallion escaped from his handler and entered the nearby paddock of another stallion, Gold Token. A fight ensued between the two stallions, and Gold Token broke through his paddock fence. Gold Token died when the pair of horses galloped off and he hit a tree.

A. P Jet, last year's leading sire in New York, had been standing for a $5,000 fee.
