Owners retire Her Emmynency, have high hopes for Auntjenn

DEL MAR, Calif .- The Grade 1 winner Her Emmynency has been retired after a series of poor performances, trainer Kristin Mulhall said over the weekend.
“She just gave up on us,” Mulhall said.
Owned by Ike and Dawn Thrash, Her Emmynency won 4 of 11 starts and earned $560,595. Mike Stidham trained Her Emmynency prior to this year.
A 4-year-old filly by Successful Appeal, Her Emmynency overcame a severe bout with colic in the fall of 2014 to win the Grade 1 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup at Keeneland last October. She won the Surfer Girl Stakes on turf at Santa Anita in 2014.
This year, Her Emmynency was winless in four starts, with her best finish a fourth in the Grade 2 Buena Vista Stakes at Santa Anita in February. The retirement was determined after Her Emmynency finished last of eight in the Grade 2 Yellow Ribbon Stakes at Del Mar on July 16.
The Thrashes and Mulhall have a promising 2-year-old filly in Auntjenn, the winner of a maiden race on Saturday. Auntjenn led throughout a race at six furlongs, winning by 6 1/2 lengths in 1:11.36. She was fourth in her career debut on July 4. In Saturday’s race, Auntjenn wore blinkers for the first time.
By Uncle Mo, Auntjenn could start in the $200,000 Sorrento Stakes at 6 1/2 furlongs on Aug. 6. Another goal is the $300,000 Del Mar Debutante at seven furlongs on Sept. 3.
“We’ll see how she comes out of it,” Mulhall said. “She’s a good doer and a strong filly. If we think we could wheel her back we could. We’ll see how she trains.”
