Ova Charged, Doncho romp on Mardi Gras card
?q=100)
Ova Charged, moving from dirt to turf, turned in the best race of her career Tuesday at Fair Grounds, contesting a fast early pace before drawing clear for a 5 1/4-length win over the accomplished race favorite Oeuvre in the $100,000 Mardi Gras Stakes.
Ova Charged ran about 5 1/2 furlongs over a good course in 1:03.66 and earned a career-best 102 Beyer Speed Figure.
A 6-year-old Brittlyn Stable homebred, Ova Charged was making just the 14th start of her career while running her record to a superb 11-1-0. Now 2 for 2 on grass, Ova Charged could come back in a $75,000 Louisiana-bred turf sprint on March 23, with the $300,000 Giant’s Causeway at the Keeneland meet in April a more lucrative option.
Shane Wilson trains Ova Charged, a daughter of Star Guitar.

◗ Ova Charged wasn’t the only standout Tuesday performance as 3-year-old Doncho followed up on an excellent Dec. 30 career debut with an easy 4 1/2-length tally in a first-level dirt-sprint allowance race.
Doncho, a son of Mo Town trained by Michelle Lovell, ran six furlongs in 1:09.52 and got a 94 Beyer, the same as in his debut.
