Outoftheclouds closes out meet with Jack Diamond Futurity win

Randy Goulding|Oct 11, 2010

VANCOUVER, British Columbia - Outofthecoulds lived up to his name by coming from well off the pace to win the $100,000 Jack Diamond Futurity for 2-year-old colts and geldings on the final day of the Hastings meet Monday.

Outoftheclouds, with Dave Wilson aboard, was eased off of a fast and contested early pace in the 6 ½-furlong race. He made his move while going three wide on the stretch turn, and after taking the lead in the late stretch, he easily held off the belated move made by Too Much Dirt.

Lookout Dubai opened up a clear lead midstretch before tiring to finish third. Stormy Canuck, the lukewarm favorite forced the early pace before tiring to finish sixth.

Outoftheclouds was coming off a sixth-place finish in the 1 1/16-mile Ascot Graduation.

“He didn’t like being on the inside when he went long in the Ascot,” said Wilson. “I tried to keep him outside of horses the whole way and it worked out perfectly.”

Trained by Mel Snow, Outoftheclouds paid $13.30 and earned $60,000 for his owners, Totally Unstable. One of the partners in the stable is B.C. Hall of Fame former jockey Brian Johnson.

The final time over a track rated wet-fast was 1:18.36.

Victory With Class wins Sadie Diamond

In the $100,000 Sadie Diamond Futurity for 2-year-year-old fillies Victory With Class came from just off the pace to win by 1 1/2 lengths. Ridden by Richard Hamel, Victory With Class was sent off as the favorite in the 6 1/2-furlong race and paid $4.80. Misty Memory, second at 42-1, and La Bronca helped spice up a $2,074.00 trifecta.

Trained by Terry Clyde and owned by her father, Doug Clyde, Victory With Class earned $60,000 to bring her career total to $109,741. Her only loss in four starts was a second-place finish behind Overvalued in the Lassie Stakes.

The final time was 1:19.07.
