Outfoxed outclasses rivals in My Dear Girl Stakes

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. - Outfoxed continued her dominance of the filly division of the Florida Sire Stakes at Gulfstream Park, cruising to a 9 1/4-length victory over Veiled Prophet in Saturday’s $400,000 My Dear Girl Stakes.
Outfoxed captured the Susan’s Girl, the middle leg of the three-race series, by 13 1/2 lengths here four weeks earlier. Leading rider Edgard Zayas was aboard Outfoxed for trainer Bill Mott on both occasions.
Sent postward the 1-5 favorite in a field of eight Florida-bred juvenile fillies on Saturday, Outfoxed was steadied along in traffic while rating behind the leaders around the opening turn of the 1 1/16-mile race. She angled four wide to engage for command midway on the second bend, opened a comfortable advantage settling into the stretch, and was geared down approaching the wire.
Veiled Prophet, who entered the My Dear Girl a maiden after four starts, steadied along sharply near the inside behind Outfoxed on the clubhouse turn. She also came outside to launch her bid on the far turn but proved no match for the winner while easily second best. It was another 8 3/4 lengths farther back to third-place finisher My Sassenach.
Outfoxed, a daughter of Valiant Minister, is owned by LNJ Foxwoods. She suffered her lone defeat in three starts in her career debut when third in a loaded maiden special weight dash at Saratoga on July 15.
The final time and all splits for the My Dear Girl were still to be determined following a malfunction by the track timing system. Outfoxed returned $2.40.
“She looked good to me,” said Mott, who watched the My Dear Girl from Parx while waiting to saddle Speaker’s Corner in the Pennsylvania Derby. “She got a little bit stuck down inside, but once he tipped her out she went right to them. And watching her cross the finish line she sure appeared to beat that group easily enough again, although as we know the waters always get deeper.”
Mott said it was too early to talk about a possible start in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Nov. 5 at Del Mar.
“I’ll talk to the powers that be, the owners and racing manager, and see what they want to do,” said Mott. “It would be a big step, but she’s certainly done good things for us in the last 30 days.”
