Ours to Run headed to Ellis Park

Ours to Run, who won her sixth consecutive stakes race Saturday night in the $75,000 Louisiana Legends Mademoiselle at Evangeline Downs, will be based this summer at Ellis Park, trainer Larry Jones said Monday.
Ours to Run’s win streak dates back to last year’s Mademoiselle.
Ours to Run was always prominent Saturday for a 1 1/4-length win, covering 5 1/2 furlongs in a sharp 1:03.48. She was the odds-on favorite in the seven-horse field. She earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 86.

“Needless to say, she ran very well,” Jones said. “She’s already back at Churchill Downs and in a few days will go over to Ellis Park, spend the summer over there. We’re just going to kind of see what’s next. If the summer is really hot, we many not run her during the summer. Nothing’s set in stone.”
Colonel Thoroughbreds owns Ours to Run, and Jones said the ownership has expressed an interest in racing her at Saratoga. He said Colonel Thoroughbreds would like to attempt a graded stakes with Ours to Run. The mare, who is 5, was the Louisiana Thoroughbred Breeders Association’s champion older female of 2018.
Nieves sidelined six weeks
Jockey Emanuel Nieves is recovering from injuries sustained in a May 11 race at Louisiana Downs, where he won the riding title last season. Agent Ron Ardoin said Nieves sustained a broken collarbone and a broken left arm. The rider was thrown during a heel-clipping incident.
“He got dropped 50 yards out of the gate,” Ardoin said Monday. “He was operated on two days ago.”
Ardoin said Nieves is expected to miss six to eight weeks of action.
Ardoin, a retired jockey who won more than 5,000 races, also is the agent for Louisiana Downs leading rider Carlos Lozada.
