Ours to Run extends winning streak to six in Louisiana Legends Mademoiselle

Ours to Run withstood a claim of foul to win her sixth straight race – all stakes – in Saturday night’s $75,000 Louisiana Legends Mademoiselle at Evangeline Downs.

The race for fillies and mares was the first of six divisional stakes on the Louisiana Legends Night program, with those races worth $450,000. The card was the richest of the meet at Evangeline.

Ours to Run ($2.20) was always prominent in the Mademoiselle, sitting just off La Mistake through an opening quarter in 22.64 seconds. She moved to the fore from there, battled with Our Millie in the stretch, and went on to a 1 1/4-length win over that one while covering the 5 1/2 furlongs on a fast track in 1:03.48.

Following the race, the trainer of Our Millie claimed foul against Ours to Run, alleging interference at the top of the stretch, but the claim was disallowed by track stewards.

Roberto Morales rode Ours to Run for Colonel Thoroughbreds and trainer Larry Jones.

Ours to Run started her streak in last year’s Mademoiselle. She made two additional starts in 2018, winning both of the Louisiana-bred divisional stakes at Fair Grounds: the Happy Ticket in November and the Louisiana Champions Day Ladies Sprint in December. For her efforts, Ours to Run was named the champion older female of 2018 by the Louisiana Thoroughbred Breeders Association.

Ours to Run opened her 5-year-old season in February with a win in the $100,000 Louisiana Premier Night Matron at Delta Downs. She then won the $145,000 Carousel on April 6 at Oaklawn over Mia Mischief, who returned in her next start to account for the Grade 1 Humana Distaff at Churchill Downs.

Ours to Run is a daughter of Half Ours. She has won 12 of 20 starts and earned $472,988.
