Our Secret Agent coasts to Whimsical Stakes triumph

ETOBICOKE, Ontario — Our Secret Agent proved a handy winner over an accomplished group of fillies and mares in Sunday’s Grade 3 Whimsical Stakes at Woodbine.
Our Secret Agent tracked the leaders on the outside down the backstretch in the six-furlong sprint, and then inherited the lead from Artie’s Princess in the stretch. She coasted home on top by 2 3/4 lengths over the closing favorite Boardroom, with Dreaming of Drew finishing another half-length back in third.
Artie’s Princess, Canada’s champion female sprinter in 2020, faded to fourth and was followed by Millennium Force, Lorena and Dirty Dangle.
The final time was posted as 1:09.62.
The hot leading rider Kazushi Kimura rode Our Secret Agent for leading trainer Mark Casse. The daughter of Secret Circle was exiting a third in her season debut in the 5 1/2-furlong Thorncliffe Stakes on opening day of the meet. Her first stakes victory came over 6 1/2 furlongs with Kimura aboard in the Grade 3 Hendrie here in October.
“Her best distance is 6 1/2 furlongs,” Kimura said. “That’s the best for her. Today might have been a bit short, but she got the good position at the beginning and was keeping fit. I thought it was going to be a very tough race, and I’m more surprised today.”
Our Secret Agent ($13.20) earned $90,000 of the $155,700 purse for owner Gary Barber.
