Our Pretty Woman and Webslinger won the two listed stakes that served as co-features on Saturday's night racing card at Churchill Downs with efforts that could propel them toward bigger targets this summer. Our Pretty Woman was a gritty winner of the $175,000 Monomoy Girl Stakes for 3-year-old fillies for her first stakes triumph. The filly stalked the pace, took over in the stretch and drew clear under steady urging from Luis Saez, and then held sway to the wire to hold off Grade 2 winner Intricate by three-quarters of a length. The top two were 2 1/2 lengths clear of stakes winner Band of Gold in third. Our Pretty Woman finished the 1 1/16 miles on the fast main track in 1:44.07. Our Pretty Woman won her first two career starts before finishing a close second to Tarifa in the Grade 2 Fair Grounds Oaks. The lightly raced filly could not overcome the far outside post after drawing in to the Kentucky Oaks as an also-eligible, finishing 11th behind Thorpedo Anna on the sloppy, sealed track. With the win in the Monomoy Girl, Our Pretty Woman is now poised to move along. Thorpedo Anna, the acknowledged leader of the division after following the Oaks with a dominant win in the Grade 1 Acorn Stakes, is bound for the major summer Grade 1s at Saratoga, the Coaching Club American Oaks and the Alabama. However, there are seven total graded stakes around the country at a mile or longer on the dirt for 3-year-old fillies in the next three months, plus several other rich listed events in those parameters.  :: Bet the races with a $200 First Deposit Match + FREE All Access PPs! We’ll enjoy this race tonight and look forward to what could be next for her.” It stands to reason that Intricate could also proceed into those divisional challenges, with a solid effort in her first start in well over two months. The filly was a Grade 2 winner as a juvenile, but was a dull fifth in the Fair Grounds Oaks in late March, emerging from the race with mucus in her upper-respiratory system. She had four breezes in preparation for her return for the Brendan Walsh barn. Later in the evening, Webslinger's affinity for the Churchill Downs course shone through again as he won the $175,000 Chorleywood Stakes for older horses. The 4-year-old gelding has not missed the board in four local stakes starts, winning the Grade 2 American Turf and the Audubon Stakes last year, and finishing third in the Grade 1 Turf Classic this May. Webslinger and Jose Ortiz were sixth of seven, and about 5 1/2 lengths back, midway on the far turn, as Stone Age had an unchallenged lead over Grade 3 Louisville Stakes winner Sugoi through six furlongs in 1:13.72 and the mile in 1:38.55. Sugoi easily took over into the stretch as the leader began to make his retreat, but Webslinger spun wide into the lane and made a steady run. He caught Sugoi to win by half a length, with globe-trotting Bold Act, who closed from last after a somewhat tardy start, another three-quarters back in third. The time for the 1 3/8 miles on firm turf was 2:14.58. Webslinger ran a 98 Beyer, equaling his career best earned last time out when third in the Turf Classic. His solid victory at this distance could be crucial as he pursues an elusive Grade 1 victory. In addition to his strong Turf Classic effort, he was beaten just a head by Program Trading in the Grade 1 Saratoga Derby last summer, and a neck by that foe in the Grade 1 Hollywood Derby in December. Excluding a trio of mile events – a distance Webslinger has not run in more than a year – the remaining Grade 1 events for older horses on the turf this year are the Arlington Million at 10 furlongs and the Breeders’ Cup Turf at 12 furlongs. “He fought pretty hard to the wire,” Ortiz said of Saturday’s effort. “I think the way he settled today, he should have no issues going an extra furlong if he needed to.” :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
