ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Our Flash Drive parlayed a perfect stalking trip into a handy score in Saturday’s Grade 3, $158,400 Whimsical Stakes at Woodbine.
Our Flash Drive ($3.40) tracked the dueling leaders Forest Drift and Hard Edge from a three-wide position in the six-furlong sprint for fillies and mares. She made the lead approaching the eighth pole before drawing clear for a 1 3/4-length score, in a time of 1:10.12.
Patrick Husbands rode Our Flash Drive for trainer Mark Casse, who also sent out the runner-up Miss Speedy.
“She’s legit,” Husbands said. “Anything you want her to do, she does it. She broke sharp and I just sat behind the speed. She got the job done.”
Presque Isle shipper Baby No Worries rallied to finish a half-length behind Miss Speedy in third. She was followed by Owen’s Tour Guide, Forest Drift, Hard Edge, Ambassador Luna and Basalt Street.
Owned by Live Oak Plantation, Our Flash Drive earned $90,000 in her first start since beating Hazelbrook while romping in the Grade 2 Bessarabian in November. The daughter of Ghostzapper finished second to Hazelbrook in the 2022 Sovereign Award voting for Canadian champion female sprinter, an award which should be hers for the taking this year.
