Ouija Board will miss prep at Longchamp

Alan Shuback|Sep 06, 2005

Ouija Board has been deemed not ready for Sunday's Prix Vermeille at Longchamp by trainer Ed Dunlop, and she will miss the race, which was to be her prep for the Breeders' Cup.

The defending Filly and Mare Turf champ, Ouija Board has suffered a series of setbacks this season, and after she worked at Newmarket on Tuesday morning, Dunlop and owner Lord Derby decided that she needed more time to recover.

Unraced since having suffered a stress fracture to her left fore cannonbone in the Prince of Wales's Stakes on June 15, Ouija Board will not go in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. Dunlop suggested that he might send her to Belmont Park for the Flower Bowl Invitational on Oct. 1, a course and distance prep for the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf.

Meanwhile, Epsom Derby winner Motivator is considered unlikely for Saturday's Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown.

His connections fear the firm ground at the suburban Dublin track and will not run Motivator unless the going softens up considerably.
