Oude heads Washington Singer

Alan Shuback|Aug 11, 2004

Oude will attempt to follow in the prodigious footsteps of Lammtarra in the Washington Singer Stakes at Newbury on Friday.

The seven-furlong listed race for 2-year-olds was won in 1994 by Lammtarra in his career debut. Lammtarra would race only three times afterwards, winning them all: the Epsom Derby, the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes and the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. Like Lammtarra, Oude is trained by Saeed bin Suroor. Unlike Lammtarra, Oude has already had a race going into the Washington Singer, that being a victory in a seven-furlong Newmarket maiden on July 25.

Challenging will be Shannon Springs, who was just a neck behind Oude in their mutual debut, and Group 2 Vintage Stakes runner-up Wilko.
