HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Five-time Eclipse Award-winning jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. will take off his scheduled mounts through Sunday, per agent Steve Rushing, after being injured in an incident following the start of the fifth race Thursday at Gulfstream Park. Ortiz was aboard A Moment a Love, a first-time starter trained by Carlos David, who ducked in after the start and ran into the rail. Ortiz was taken to nearby Aventura Hospital complaining of hip pain. “The X-rays on his hip were negative,” Rushing reported Friday morning. “He’s just swollen, scraped up from the temporary rail, and very body sore. He’ll be off through Sunday and hopefully return next week.” Ortiz, who is once again dominating the jockey standings for the 2025-26 Gulfstream Park championship meet, had been scheduled to ride Saturday at Colonial Downs and then return locally on Sunday. :: Get Gulfstream Park Clocker Reports from Mike Welsch and the Clocker Team.
