O'Riain takes Freshman by six lengths

John McDulin|Oct 27, 2007
O'Riain made it two stakes in a row in the $50,000 Freshman at Beulah Park on Saturday. Jockey Victor Urieta-Moran rode almost exactly the same race as he had aboard O'Riain in the Best of Ohio Juvenile, getting the lead early, only to allow the 2-year-old to relax on the backstretch, then rallying on the far turn and drawing off in the stretch. The margin over victory was an impressive six lengths, and the running time for the one-mile Freshman was 1.42.05.

O'Riain, a son of Mercer Mill trained by Ivan Vazquez, returned $7 to win. O'Riain was the first horse bred by Dave Barnaclo for his father in law, William R. Ryan. Type A Personality, Trained by Eric Reed, was second under Dana Whitney and Buzz Bunny, part of the Tim Hamm trained entry was third.
