Ordak Dan heads field for Gran Premio 25 de Mayo
Ordak Dan, who won the Group 1 Gran Premio 25 de Mayo in Argentina in 2013 but missed 18 months because of injury before returning to action in late 2014, is part of a field of 15 in Monday’s Gran Premio 25 de Mayo at San Isidro, Argentina.
The winner of the turf race at 1 1/2 miles will receive a fees-paid automatic berth for the Breeders’ Cup Turf at Keeneland on Oct. 31, provided the winner is nominated to the Breeders’ Cup program.
Ordak Dan, a 7-year-old horse, was injured in the summer of 2013 and returned to racing last December with an 18th-place finish in the Group 1 Carlos Pellegrini, the top race for older horses in South America.
The field for Monday’s race includes Alma de Acero, who has won five consecutive races for Stud Baltasar and trainer Augustin Pavlosky. In February, Alma de Acero won the Group 1 Premio Martinez de Hoz at San Isidro, beating Ordak Dan by a half-length.
Rio Vittel, a Group 1 stakes winner on dirt, and Must Go On, who was third in the Premio Martinez de Hoz, also are part of the field.
