ETOBICOKE, Ontario – One Timer scored impressively on debut, and the Chicago shipper will try to double up in Saturday’s $125,000 Victoria Stakes for 2-year-olds going 5 1/2 furlongs on Tapeta at Woodbine. Trained by Larry Rivelli, One Timer won a June 26 maiden special at Arlington by 12 1/2 lengths with an 80 Beyer Speed Figure. The runner-up, Tough to Tame, came right back to win another five-furlong maiden special on the Polytrack there as the favorite. E.T. Baird is named to ride One Timer, a son of Trappe Shot who’s out of a half-sister to Grade 1 Belmont and Display Stakes winner Sir Winston. Victoria Stakes rival Mowins got a 76 Beyer when graduating second time out by 6 3/4 lengths going five-eighths on the dirt at Indiana Grand for trainer Michael Lauer. Concealed Carry won a five-furlong maiden special here June 20 from off the pace, with David Moran aboard for trainer Barbara Minshall. “He hasn’t taken a step backwards since that race,” Minshall said. “I’m really happy with him. He’s pretty rideable. He’s not a horse who needs the lead. He waits for the rider to give him the cue.” :: Bet the races with confidence on DRF Bets. After a narrow debut loss at Churchill, Feelthebeat set a rapid pace on a substantial lead before holding on by a nose in a 5 1/2-furong maiden special here July 18. There are two other stakes on Saturday’s 11-race card – the $125,000 My Dear for 2-year-old fillies and the $100,000 Alywow, an overnight turf sprint for 3-year-old fillies. Trainer Mark Casse entered a pair of first-out winners in the 5 1/2-furlong My Dear – Lois Len and Diabolic. They worked a half-mile together in a bullet 46.40 seconds on the Tapeta on July 23. Lois Len won a five-furlong maiden special here July 3 on the main track from off the pace with a 72 Beyer, the highest in the My Dear field. Irish-bred Diabolic has worked thrice locally since shipping north from Florida, where she graduated in a five-furlong maiden special on the Gulfstream grass in May. Unraced Curlin Candy is the first foal out of 2016 Canadian Horse of the Year Caren. The daughter of Curlin worked five-eighths in a bullet 59 seconds on the dirt training track July 24 for Mike DePaulo, the trainer of Caren. “She’s worked good” on every surface, DePaulo said. “My main goal is to get her to the Natalma Stakes. Her mother finished third in it to Catch a Glimpse.” Can’t Buy Love heads the 6 1/2-furlong Alywow on the main turf course. She was claimed for $75,000 in February at Gulfstream, where she went on to be competitive in two turf stakes. She came here to win the six-furlong Star Shoot Stakes on the Tapeta on June 19 and has since worked brilliantly for trainer Mike Trombetta. Casse sends out Dirty Dangle and La Libertee, who finished second and fifth, respectively, in the Star Shoot. Dirty Dangle took the five-furlong Woodbine Cares Stakes on the inner turf in September. Lady War Machine added front bandages in a blowout maiden score over six furlongs on the Tapeta in her season debut. She’s by the good 14 percent turf sire Street Boss.
