One Sweet Racy prevails in AQHA Distaff Challenge do-over
One Sweet Racy held off a late surge from Tickle Ur Fancy to win Sunday’s $100,000 AQHA Distaff Challenge at Los Alamitos, a race originally scheduled for Nov. 17 but declared a no-contest that night because of a gate malfunction.
Sunday, One Sweet Racy ($3.20) won the 400-yard race by a nose in 19.87 seconds. Tickle Ur Fancy, a 6-1 chance, finished three-quarters of a length in front of 7-2 Duck Dash N Go in the field of 10.
The 10 fillies and mares that started on Sunday were the same field from the Nov. 17 race and started from the same post positions.
After the Nov. 17 race, all participants were given $10,000. For Sunday’s race, Los Alamitos track owner Ed Allred provided the $100,000 purse.
One Sweet Racy, who was ridden by Eduardo Nicasio, is owned by Johnny Trotter and trained by Christopher O’Dell. A 4-year-old filly, One Sweet Racy has won 4 of 17 starts and earned $370,423. The AQHA Distaff was her second stakes win. She was second in the $1.365 million All American Derby at Ruidoso Downs in 2017.
O’Dell said after Sunday’s race that One Sweet Racy will be pointed for the $100,000 Charger Bar Handicap for fillies and mares at 400 yards at Los Alamitos on Jan. 6.
