One Sweet Duck can extend Arrossa's stakes roll
RACE REPLAY IS NOT AVAILABLEOne Sweet Duck will be favored to give trainer Monty Arrossa his third stakes win of the month at Los Alamitos in Sunday’s $96,900 Wild West Futurity at 350 yards.
The Wild West Futurity is restricted to horses who have started in Western states - other than California and New Mexico – or Canadian provinces this year.
One Sweet Duck began his career at Los Alamitos where he finished seventh in the Kindergarten Futurity for Arrossa in his third start in May. Owned and bred by Lex Fabrizio, One Sweet Duck was later second in the Wyoming Downs Futurity in August when trained by Riley Moosman.
Back with Arrossa this fall, One Sweet Duck set the fastest qualifying time of 17.86 seconds in trials for the Wild West Futurity with a two-length win on Oct. 2.

On the same night, Arrossa won the Pacific Coast Quarter Horse Racing Association Breeders’ Futurity with Chicks First Flash. On Oct. 8, the Arrossa-trained Apollitical Pence won the Robert Boniface Los Alamitos Championship.
Armando Cervantes rode those stakes winners for Arrossa, and has the mount on One Sweet Duck in the Wild West Futurity. One Sweet Duck will break from post 7 in a field of 10.
Monicas Favorite, third behind One Sweet Duck after a troubled start in the trials, and Jessica Cruz, a trial race winner in 18.08 seconds, are two runners capable of top three finishes.
Monicas Favorite won the Bitterroot Futurity on July 29 at Pocatello Downs in Idaho, that state’s leading Quarter Horse track. Jessica Cruz was fourth in the Intermountain Futurity at the Elko county fair in Nevada on Sept. 5.
Arrossa trains four of the 10 qualifiers, including Jess Yaya, Special Gift, and Suite Caroline.
Special Gift was third in the Bitterroot Futurity and won a division of the Wild West trials in a relatively slow time of 18.20 seconds.
The Wild West Futurity is the last of 10 races on Sunday. Wagering is available through DRFBets.com.
