One horse euthanized following training track collision
ARCADIA, Calif. – Tikkun Olam, the winner of a maiden claimer on turf in January 2019, was euthanized on Sunday as a result of an injury sustained in a collision with another horse before dawn on the infield training track at Santa Anita.
Trainer Eric Kruljac said Tikkun Olam was galloping at the time of the incident and sustained a shoulder injury.
“It’s really sad,” he said.
The incident occurred when a horse trained by Jack Carava ducked in sharply toward the middle of the training track while jogging on the outside rail, Kruljac said. Carava declined to identify the horse involved, but said the horse was not injured.
The exercise riders aboard the horses were unseated, but were not injured, track stewards said.
A 4-year-old gelding, Tikkun Olam had one win in nine starts and was in training for a comeback, Kruljac said.
The incident occurred on a difficult weekend at Santa Anita after Harliss and Uncontainable were euthanized after sustaining injuries during turf races on Friday and Saturday.
