One Go All Go looks to break through in Gulfstream Park Turf

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Trainer Charles “Scooter” Dickey said One Go All Go first caught his eye when finishing third, beaten just a length, behind his graded stakes winner Flatlined in an overnight stakes last summer at Ellis Park. So, when One Go All Go showed up in the Keeneland November mixed sale, Dickey was on hand to put in the final bid of $62,000 for owner Rodney Paden.
One Go All Go has been a source of both pride and frustration for Dickey and Paden ever since the sale. He’s returned quick dividends, with second-place finishes at the current Gulfstream Park meet in an allowance and, most recently, the Grade 2 Fort Lauderdale Stakes. But those narrow losses have been exasperating, as the horse appeared to be headed for victory each time before hanging late.
“He beat himself both times,” Dickey said. “When he did it the first time, the jock [Chris Landeros] said he thought he had him figured out. But as soon as he got by the leader [Shining Copper] in the stakes, he threw his head up in the air and did it again.”
One Go All Go will get another opportunity to seal the deal here Saturday and become a Grade 1 winner when going postward among the favorites in the 1 1/8-mile Gulfstream Turf Handicap. Landeros again will have the call.
“I told the jock he can ride him again, but this time, he better wait and try to get in front right before the wire,” Dickey said. “At least we should have some pace and a target to run at with Heart to Heart in the field.”
Heart to Heart and One Go All Go will break from posts 1 and 2. The rest of the field is Kurilov, Hi Happy, Money Multiplier, March, Revved Up, and Channel Maker. Revved Up was supplemented to the race.
Trainer Mike Maker had nominated seven horses to the Gulfstream Park Turf but didn’t enter any. Maker had said earlier in the week he was planning on running Galton, runner-up in the Grade 3 Tropical Park Turf on Dec. 16.
Fort Lauderdale winner Shining Copper, among Maker’s nominees, is traveling for the Barbados Gold Cup on March 3.
Strong cast for Suwannee River
The Gulfstream Park Turf is the highlight of Saturday’s 12-race program, which also includes the Grade 3 Suwannee River, featuring a classy and well-matched field of nine fillies and mares to go 1 1/8 miles on the grass. Maker’s Grade 2 winner Kitten’s Roar, Elysea’s World, and Dream Dancing top a strong lineup that also includes Westit, Beauly, Midnight Crossing, Flipcup, Ultra Brat, and Dream Awhile.
Kitten’s Roar will get some class relief while making her first start since finishing eighth in the Grade 1 Matriarch to close her 2017 campaign. She won the Grade 2 Goldikova at Del Mar in her previous start.
Elysea’s World will try to end a nine-race losing streak during which she’s placed in six graded stakes, including a second-place finish behind Dickinson in the 2017 Suwannee River.
Dream Dancing figures to get a little more pace to run at than when finishing second as the 8-5 favorite behind Ultra Brat in the Grade 3 Marshua’s River here this winter.
