One Fine Dream wins Gov. Branstad Stakes for second time

One Fine Dream went over $500,000 in earnings Saturday night at Prairie Meadows, where he won the $100,000 Gov. Terry E. Branstad Stakes for the second time. He darted to a 4 1/4-length victory over favorite No Holds Barred, while it was another two lengths back to Molleck in third.
The Branstad was one of seven divisional stakes for Iowa-breds that closed out the meet at Prairie.
One Fine Dream ($5.20) sat off the pace set by Matchlock, who put up fractions of 23.15 seconds for the opening quarter and 47.02 for the half-mile before turning things over to No Holds Barred through six furlongs in 1:11.58. One Fine Dream advanced, moved past the leader in the stretch, and went on to cover the 1 1/16 miles on a fast track in 1:45.21.
John Bisono rode the winner for Umbrella Stables II and trainer Kelly Von Hemel.
One Fine Dream was winning the eighth stakes race of his career, and the first-place check of $59,100 improved his earnings to $504,624. Overall, the son of Woke Up Dreamin has won 10 of 26 starts. He was bred by Gary E. Lucas and Linda Woods.
Von Hemel had a second winner on the night when Mywomanfromtokyo ($2.60) proved 8 3/4 lengths best in the $100,000 Donna Reed. My Sister Madi finished second, while it was another length back to Zella Rose in third.
Mywomanfromtokyo set fractions 23.56 seconds for the opening quarter, 47.36 for the half-mile, and 1:12.10 for six furlongs before going on to cover the one mile and 70 yards in 1:41.85.
Glenn Corbett was aboard for Crimson King Farm and Christine Rhiner. Mywomanfromtokyo is a daughter of Neko Bay. She was bred by Crimson King Farm in partnership with Mr. and Mrs. Scott Pope.
Chleborad exacta in Iowa Breeders’ Oaks
Horses trained by Lynn Chleborad accounted for the exacta in the $103,150 Iowa Breeders’ Oaks, as Tracy Racy held off Glitzy Lady by a length. It was another 1 1/4 lengths back to Shimmering Dream in third.
Tracy Racy ($6.80) tracked favorite Sequence of Events through fractions of 23.59 seconds for the opening quarter and 47.89 for the half-mile before taking over through six furlongs in 1:12.87. The winner went on to cover the one mile and 70 yards in 1:44.42.
Alex Birzer was aboard Tracy Racy for Poindexter Thoroughbreds, who co-owns the horse with Chleborad. Tracy Racy is a daughter of Algorithms.
The 3-1 exacta paid $61.
• Tin Badge ($3.60) proved much the best in the $103,150 Iowa Breeders’ Derby, where the 4-5 favorite shuttled home by 8 1/2 lengths over Sho Poke. The winner covered 1 1/16 miles in 1:45.47. Corbett was aboard the son of The Deputy for Mamas Thoroughbreds and trainer Gregory Zielinski.
• Topper T ($30.60) led throughout for a 3 1/2-length win over Pepe’ Longstocking in the $92,500 Cradle for 2-year-olds. The winner covered six furlongs in 1:10.31. C.J. McMahon was aboard Topper T, a son of Bellamy Road, for breeder and owner Black Oak Farm and trainer Ray Tracy Jr.
• McMahon was back in the winner’s circle a few races later aboard Itsallaboutyou ($11.40), who powered to a 3 1/4-length win over favorite Scrutinizer in the $85,000 Dan Johnson Sprint. The winner covered six furlongs in 1:09.64. Itsallaboutyou is a son of Harlington owned by Danny Caldwell and trained by Federico Villafranco.
• Olive Oyl ($15.60) was always prominent for a 2 1/4-length win over Run With the Brave in the $92,500 Iowa Sorority for 2-year-old fillies. She covered six furlongs in 1:12.03. Terry Thompson was aboard the daughter of Albertus Maximus for Steven Frum and trainer Tom Wellington. Frum bred Olive Oyl with Roger Pelster.
