Omenson, once of DRF, dies

Dale Omenson, a Daily Racing Form correspondent and desk editor for more than two decades, died, apparently of a heart attack while exercising on Sunday, according to his friends and family. Omenson was 68.

Omenson lived in Las Vegas at the time of his death, having retired from Daily Racing Form in 2001.

A California native, Omenson joined Daily Racing Form in 1978 as a copy editor, but left in 1980. Two years later, he rejoined the paper and began his assignment on the Northern California Thoroughbred circuit, where from 1982 until his retirement he reported on the day-to-day events at Bay Meadows, Golden Gate Fields, and the fair circuit.

Omenson moved to Las Vegas shortly after his retirement. He is survived by two nieces, Sabrina Bruce and Erika Blanchard. By Omenson's wishes, no funeral service will be held.
