Ollie's Candy, Roadster top Saturday work tab

DEL MAR, Calif. – The 2019 Grade 1 winners Ollie’s Candy and Roadster worked at Del Mar on Saturday in preparation for autumn races.
Ollie’s Candy, the winner of the Grade 1 Clement Hirsch Stakes for fillies and mares on July 28, worked five furlongs in 59.80 seconds for a scheduled start in the Grade 1 Zenyatta Stakes at 1 1/16 miles at Santa Anita on Sept. 28.
The main goal is the Breeders’ Cup Distaff at Santa Anita on Nov. 2. Ollie’s Candy earned a fees-paid berth to the BC Distaff with her win in the Clement Hirsch Stakes.
“She worked just beautiful,” trainer John Sadler said. “It would be nice if the Breeders’ Cup was at Del Mar. She loves this track.”
The Breeders’ Cup races were held at Del Mar in 2017 and will be back here in 2021.
Owned by Paul and Karen Eggert, Ollie’s Candy has won 4 of 8 starts and earned $452,151.
Roadster, who won the Grade 1 Santa Anita Derby on April 6, was second to Mucho Gusto in his last start, the Grade 3 Affirmed Stakes at Santa Anita on June 16. Saturday, Roadster worked a half-mile in 49.40 seconds, his first workout since late July.
Trainer Bob Baffert said he does not have a specific race goal for Roadster, who finished 15th after a wide trip in the Kentucky Derby in May.
