Oleksandra, back from injury, making a run at Breeders' Cup

ELMONT, N.Y. – Oleksandra, the Australian-bred mare who beat males in the Grade 1 Jaipur at Belmont in June, is back in training at Belmont Park and could return to the work tab by the end of September, trainer Neil Drysdale said.
Oleksandra came out of the Jaipur with a broken splint bone in a foreleg and was given plenty of time off for the bone to heal. Drysdale believes the injury occurred when Oleksandra got bumped out of the gate.
“We hope to get to the Breeders’ Cup,” Drysdale said.

Oleksandra is one of eight horses Drysdale has stabled at Belmont Park. He said he moved some horses east after the wildfires in Southern California made for poor air quality near Santa Anita. Among the horses Drysdale hopes to run at this meet are Adare, a 4-year-old son of Medaglia d’Oro who won a maiden race at Del Mar in August and was fourth first time versus winners at Del Mar in September. Drysdale also has Overjoyed, a recent allowance winner at Monmouth who has fired four consecutive bullet workouts at Belmont since her last race, and the unraced 2-year-old filly Miss Dracarys, a daughter of Malibu Moon whose bottom-side pedigree includes stakes winners Honey Ryder and Dominus.
