Old Fashioned healing after surgery

Marty McGee|Apr 15, 2009

Old Fashioned underwent successful surgery Tuesday at the Rood and Riddle equine clinic in Lexington, Ky., and was scheduled for release Thursday, said trainer Larry Jones.

"It looks like he came through it really well," said Jones.

Old Fashioned suffered a non-displaced slab fracture to his right knee when he finished second to Papa Clem in the Arkansas Derby last Saturday. Jones said he had yet to consult with owner Rick Porter about where the colt would be shipped from the clinic.

Old Fashioned most likely will be retired, because it is highly improbable that a horse of his caliber would be able to return to the same level after such an injury, said Jones.

Dr. Larry Bramlage performed the surgery at Rood and Riddle.
