Oklahoma Derby, Remington Oaks getting them from all over

The Oklahoma Derby could draw shippers from Southern California, Kentucky, and New York when the Grade 3, $400,000 race runs Sept. 30 at Remington Park. It will anchor a card of 10 stakes that includes the Grade 3, $200,000 Remington Park Oaks.
Entries for the program will be taken Thursday, Sept. 27. First post for the special Sunday afternoon card is 3 p.m. Central.
The Oklahoma Derby had a working list of seven possible starters as of Wednesday morning, according to Remington stakes coordinator Don Thompson. The 1 1/8-mile race could draw Draft Pick, winner of the Grade 3 Affirmed at Santa Anita; Tatters to Riches, winner of the $100,000 Shared Belief at Del Mar; and the Churchill Downs-based colts Lone Sailor, runner-up in the Grade 3 Super Derby at Louisiana Downs, and Believe in Royalty, winner of the Ellis Park Derby.
Thompson said Sea Foam could invade for trainer Christophe Clement. Sea Foam has won New York-bred stakes in his last two starts, most recently the $250,000 Albany at Saratoga. Thompson said another potential shipper is Yulong Warrior, the fourth-place finisher in the Shared Belief in his North American debut. He is trained by Doug O’Neill.
Limation, a Steve Asmussen trainee coming off a win in the Super Derby, has been working at Remington Park for an intended start in the Oklahoma Derby. He worked five-eighths in 1:00.20 on Tuesday.
The Remington Park Oaks is graded for the first time. Thompson said the 1 1/16-mile race could draw Cosmic Burst, winner of the Grade 3 Honeybee at Oaklawn; Hold Her Tight, who was third last out in the Grade 3 Iowa Oaks at Prairie Meadows; Shamrock Rose, who is coming off back-to-back stakes wins at Presque Isle and Woodbine; and Stronger Than Ever and True Dream from the barn of trainer Ken McPeek.
Trainer Brad Cox said he didn’t know which of his horses might ship into Oklahoma.
Trainer Bill Mott said Wednesday morning he had nominated horses to the Oklahoma Derby and to the Remington Park Oaks, but there was a less than 50 percent chance he would have a starter in either race. He said that Miss Mimosa, a first-level allowance winner at Saratoga, had been entered in the $100,000 Dogwood, which runs Saturday at Churchill.
Talk Veuve to Me was nominated to the Remington Park Oaks but will point to the Grade 1, $500,000 Spinster on Oct. 7 at Keeneland, trainer Rodolphe Brisset said.
“She’s training at Keeneland, loves the track here,” he said.
Brisset also said he likes the additional time to the Spinster for Talk Veuve to Me, the winner of the Grade 3 Indiana Oaks coming off a fourth-place finish in the Grade 1 Alabama on Aug. 18 at Saratoga.
“She ran really hard last time,” said Brisset.
Thompson said flights bringing horses from California and Kentucky for Oklahoma Derby Day would run next week.
