The OTBO is pleased to announce our first ever fully ONLINE Mixed Sale/Auction! The sale will take place September 23-27 and be hosted by SaleRing.net our excellent partner that has hosted the OTBO Annual Stallion Season Auction for many years. All information and entry forms/conditions are available on our website – otbo.com. You can contact us via email at ohiobreeders@gmail.com or by phone at 330 356 8350 for further information as well. The OTBO will be accepting weanlings, yearlings, 2-year-olds, horses of racing age, and broodmares whether in foal or open. The deadline for entry is September 1st giving owners plenty of time to make decisions and get horses ready for sale. Many major breeding farms in Ohio – Maccabee Farms, Buckeye Stallion Station/Hurst Racing, Raimonde Farms Ltd., On Track Training Center, LLC (sold the 2023 OTBO Sale Topper!), and Howlett Ranch – along with many other smaller consignors have already committed to supporting the OTBO online sale 100%. The OTBO was established in 1956 to benefit everyone in the Ohio racing and breeding industry. We hold a sale annually to provide an opportunity for all Ohio horsepeople to have a fair marketplace to sell any horse they want. We value the breeder with 1-2 horses just as much as the breeder with 40 because that is who we are in Ohio racing. Everyone has a shot to make this a profitable business. Our champions come from all corners of the state! We also want to announce several major changes that all came because of listening to our members and horsepeople in Ohio. They include: 1. No consignment fees to enter (0$)! To our knowledge we are the ONLY sale in the US that offers no entry fee! 2. Profit Sharing – if the sale makes money the OTBO will share the profits 50/50 with the consignors. Again, no other sale in the country does this! 3. Transportation – the OTBO will provide transportation at cost to buyer’s locations from our consignors if needed. Also, all Ohio bred horses that are sold in this sale will be eligible, in their 3 year old season, for the $50,000 OTBO Sale Grad Race held the first weekend in March at Mahoning Valley Race Course. The 2025 edition will be the 4th annual race. This is the ONLY Stake race associated with an Ohio sale and is supported by both the Ohio HBPA and Mahoning Race Course. “They asked. We listened.” said Mike Annechino, Executive Director of the OTBO. “Consignors wanted a level playing field with ways to make things easier for their young horses as well as the buyers who come from all over Ohio and beyond. They also wanted to cut down on their expenses and risks which an online auction absolutely provides. Now young horses especially do not have to ship to a busy location and there is no need to pay for extra help or accommodations at a remote sale.” Buyers also do not have to try and get away at one specific time and drive potentially hundreds of miles to view the horses. They can do their analysis and bidding whenever they have time available over an entire week! Every horse will have pictures, videos, and pedigree or past performance information on the auction site. A list of horses with their locations will be published shortly after the entry deadline and each consignor has agreed to make the horses available for inspection at the mutual convenience of perspective buyers in the two weeks leading up to the sale! “In today’s day and age this just makes tremendous sense for everyone. The lower costs enable sellers to pass them along to buyers. The convenience of bidding from your own home or seeing horses on your own schedule is unmatched. The technology is excellent and proven. We can reach potential buyers all over the country on a platform that is well accepted by leading horsepeople all over the world!” Annechino said. “We recognize that this will be different for Ohio horse people. We are very confident that they will understand and embrace it and be excited by the benefits an online sale will deliver to them. Ohio horsepeople are smart, experienced, and capable in every aspect of our business. Plus, we already have some great horses lined up!” We encourage everyone to visit SaleRing.net to get registered and familiar with the site. Registration is free and easy. Credit cards and checks will be accepted for payment. Racing in Ohio represents the best bang for the buck in all of racing. We encourage everyone to go online and take a look at the tremendous quality horses being offered. You won’t be disappointed!
