Ohio Thoroughbred Breeders and Owners Association holding stallion season sale
The Ohio Thoroughbred Breeders and Owners Association is set to conduct its annual stallion season sale.
The sale preview period begins Friday, with the sale conducted online on the Starquine platform on Dec. 8-9. Detailed information and a complete list of stallions with seasons on offer can be found on Starquine.com and OTBO.com.
More than 120 stallions are currently represented by seasons on offer. In addition to Ohio and Kentucky, stallions standing in Florida, Indiana, Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia are represented. Stallions may be added up to the start of the sale.
Ohio stallions with seasons on offer include the Poplar Creek Horse Center roster of Aeneas, Biondetti, Da Big Hoss, David Copperfield, Indy Wind, King of the Roxy, Kiss the Ghost, Rivers Run Deep, Tidal Volume, Twinspired, and Vertiformer. Ohio-bred Rivers Run Deep was multiple times a champion sprinter in his home state.
Botswana Taps, entering stud in 2022 at Raimonde Farms, is among the offered stallion seasons, as are his stablemates, Grade 1 winner Drill, Hostile Takeover, and Quick Change.
Other Ohio stallions represented include National Flag, standing for the partnership of Blazing Meadows Farm and WinStar Farm; and Corfu at Duncan Farms.
WinStar Farm, a major partner in Ohio breeding and racing enterprises with Tim Hamm's Blazing Meadows, has made seasons on its Kentucky stallions Speightster and Tom's d'Etat available. Another Kentucky farm with ties in the state, Calumet Farm – which stands Vertiformer at Poplar Creek – has made seasons to the majority of its roster available, including Oxbow, with a breakout campaigner in 2021 in Hot Rod Charlie.
Leading young sire Goldencents has a season on offer for Spendthrift Farm, which also has added popular young stallions Omaha Beach and Vekoma. The Lane's End Farm roster is represented by 13 stallions, including champions Accelerate, Game Winner, and West Coast.
Other Kentucky farms that have made seasons available are Airdrie Stud, Buck Pond, Castleton Lyons, Darby Dan, Farley, Gainesway, and Taylor Made.
“We are excited to offer such incredible depth and quality in our sale this year," OTBO executive director Mike Annechino said in a press release. "With the help and support of all the participating farms, we feel we are providing breeders with a tremendous opportunity to produce outstanding foals. Many of the leading sires by earnings from the entire region are represented in our sale, plus multiple up and coming stallions that are sure to reward breeders with commercial success."
