Odds-on Mia Mischief impressive in Dream Supreme Stakes
RACE REPLAY IS NOT AVAILABLE
If Mia Mischief was indeed making the final start of her career, she sent herself out in style. The filly rolled to a five-length victory as the heavy favorite in the $120,000 Dream Supreme Stakes on Friday evening at Churchill Downs.
Mia Mischief, a 4-year-old Into Mischief filly, is trained by Steve Asmussen for Bill and Corinne Heiligbrodt, Heider Family Stables, and Madaket Stables. She is cataloged to be sold at the Fasig-Tipton November mixed sale the night of Nov. 5. She will bring an updated career record of 19-8-6-1 and earnings of more than $1 million to the auction ring with her.
The Dream Supreme was her fifth career stakes victory. Her biggest scores came in this year's Grade 1 Humana Distaff and last year's Grade 2 Eight Belles Stakes, both at Churchill Downs. She also defeated Covfefe, the morning-line favorite for Saturday's Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Sprint, in the Roxelana Stakes in June at the Louisville track.
Mia Mischief ($3.60), with Julien Leparoux in the irons for the first time, sat comfortably in third, heads behind Shanghai Tariff and Skamania through the opening half in 45.21 seconds. Once straightened away into the stretch, the favorite blew to the lead, and swiftly opened up three lengths. The outcome was never in doubt from there, as Mia Mischief continued to widen her advantage to the wire. She finished the six furlongs in 1:09.50.
Meadow Dance made a mild rally from fourth in midstretch to pass the fading pacesetters, then held off Pretty Greeley by a half-length to hold the place spot.
