October claim Timeless Bounty pays $121 in Steel Valley Sprint
Timeless Bounty landed a major bounty in the $250,000 Steel Valley Sprint on Monday at Mahoning Valley Racecourse.
In a major upset, Timeless Bounty returned $121.20. Favored Baby Yoda finished off the board after being steadied in midstretch when Mister Luigi lugged inward.
Timeless Bounty, with Malcolm Franklin aboard for trainer David Wilson Jr., earned his first stakes victory in the Steel Valley. In his only previous try at the level, the Michigan-bred son of Elusive Hour was seventh in the Tom Ridge Stakes in August at Presque Isle.
In his next start, he won a claiming race at Thistledown, and was picked up by trainer Anthony Rini for $12,500. Two starts later in October, Wilson claimed him for $15,000. In his first start for his new connections, Timeless Bounty was third in an allowance-optional event at Mahoning Valley in a prep for the Steel Valley.
Timeless Bounty was seventh at the quarter pole of the Steel Valley, and rallied furiously for a three-quarter-length victory over Beren, stopping the clock in 1:11.01 for six furlongs on a fast track.
Meanwhile, as Mister Luigi raced in contention, he lugged in in midstretch, causing a rallying Baby Yoda to steady. Mister Lugi crossed the line third, 2 1/4 lengths behind runner-up Beren and a neck ahead of Jaxon Traveler. After a review by the stewards, Mister Luigi was disqualified and placed seventh, behind odds-on Baby Yoda.
The final official order of finish was Timeless Bounty, Beren, Jaxon Traveler, Ahimelech, Channel Fury, Baby Yoda, Mister Luigi, A Few Too Many, Real Talk, Insofar, Kiltoom, and Newbomb.
A race prior to the Steel Valley Sprint, Call On Mischief prevailed in a long drive to win the $75,000 Hollywood Gaming Mahoning Distaff.
Call On Mischief ($9.40) and Jose Lezcano won by a half-length over Ever Wonder and Victim of Love, who finished in a dead heat for second. They were a neck ahead of favored Mundaye Call in fourth.
This was the first career stakes victory for Call On Mischief, an Into Mischief filly who shipped in for Kelly Breen. She was stakes-placed earlier this year at Pimlico and Aqueduct.
