Ocean Safari gains Honey Ryder victory with perfect trip

Ocean Safari had a perfect trip in winning the $75,000 Honey Ryder at Gulfstream Park on Saturday.

She paid $17.40 for her half-length victory over Omixochitl in the one-mile race for 3-year-old fillies.

With Hector Berrios riding, Ocean Safari broke alertly from post 2 in the nine-horse field, saved ground while stalking Lemieux, who set the pace, and Omixochitl, who was giving chase. She angled off the rail on the stretch turn, moved outside the leaders turning for home before finishing full of run to win going away. Omixochitl took over the lead inside the eighth pole, but was unable to hold off the late surge by the winner.

Love Her Lots rallied late to finish third.

The final time was 1:36.18. The race was hand timed, so no interior fractions are available.

A Kentucky-bred daughter of Temple City, Ocean Safari is trained by Gilberto and races for Soldi Stable LLC and Ohana Racing LLC.
