Ocean Downs: Repeaters in Maryland Sire Stakes finals
Pride Of Windswept, Funnyfunnyriddle, Madisonsallin, and Real Made took their respective Maryland Sire Stakes finals for 3-year-olds at Rosecroft Raceway back on May 23, and they were all able to win again in the same $70,000 events on Wednesday night at Ocean Downs.
Driven by Corey Callahan in the filly trot, Pride Of Windswept raced in fourth through stations of 29 1/5 and 1:00 1/5, then made a first-over move into the lead beyond the 1:30 1/5 three-quarters. From there, Pride Of Windswept opened up and went on to tally by 7 1/2 lengths in 1:59 4/5, with early leader Lookie Lookie (John Wagner) second and Call Me Keeper (Jonathan Roberts) back in third.
The winner of the Maryland Sire Stakes finals at both Ocean Downs and Rosecroft as a 2-year-old, Pride Of Windswept, a Charlie De Vie filly trained by Shaun Callahan for owners/breeders John Swart Jr. and Sarah Swart, has 14 wins and two seconds from 16 trips behind the gate, and she has put away $169,975. The 1-9 favorite, she paid $2.10 to win.
Funnyfunnyriddle (Jim Morand) made front from post three in the final for male trotters and led through panels of 29 3/5, 1:01 4/5, and 1:32 2/5. Funnyfunnyriddle was under heavy first-over pressure from Kaaching Kaaching (Russell Foster) past three-quarters and around the final turn, but Funnyfunnyriddle dug in gamely and stayed in command en route to winning by three-parts of a length in 2:01 3/5. Kaaching Kaaching was the runner-up, and Trents A Lock (Wagner) finished third from the pocket.
Les Givens trains Funnyfunnyriddle, a gelded son of Lockkeeper, for co-owner/breeder James Magno and co-owners Nanticoke Racing Inc. and Joseph Fonte. Funnyfunnyriddle has a record of 10-4-0 from 15 career appearances, and he has now pocketed $112,262. He returned $3.40 to win as the favorite.

In the filly pace Madisonsallin (Wagner) stalked Ella's A Treat (Jason Thompson) to the 29 1/5 opening quarter and 59 4/5 half, then went on a third quarter attack that propelled her into the lead well before the 1:28 1/5 three-quarters. It was all Madisonsallin after that as she widened to prevail by 5 1/2 lengths in 1:57 3/5. Intracoastal (Roberts) got up for third at long odds, and Ella's A Treat faded to third.
A daughter of Rusty's All In trained by John Wanger, Madisonsallin is owned by breeder Pamela Wagner. This was Madisonsallin's tenth career win, and she has now earned $129,744. She was sent off as the 4-5 favorite and paid $3.60 to win.
Harveys All In (Wagner) zipped to the engine in the colt and gelding pace and hit the opening quarter in 28 3/5 and the half in 58 while parking out Whep (Charles Perry Jr.). After the half, Real Made (Allan Davis) swung out three-wide from second-over, and he joined Harveys All In at the 1:26 4/5 three-quarters, then went by him past that pole. There was no catching Real Made once he took command as he pulled away to a 2 3/4 length decision in 1:56, with Rocket Sparks (Roberts) advancing from fifth to second in the last quarter. Harveys All In held third.
The victorious Rusty's For Real gelding is trained by Brian Wright for owner/breeder Willard Hall Jr. Real Made is now a five-time winner from 13 lifetime tries, and he has banked $108,840. He was favored and returned $4.20 to win.
