Ocean Downs: Hs Judy Jetson turns in track record effort in Maryland Sire Stakes final
Ocean Downs was the scene of two $70,000 Maryland Sire Stakes finals on Sunday night, with Hs Judy Jetson (filly trot) and Trump That Rusty (colt and gelding pace) scoring decisive victories.
Hs Judy Jetson was the star of the night, turning in a 1:57 3/5 track record clocking in her final. Driven by Art Stafford Jr., she led the way through stations of 28, 57 2/5, and 1:27 before she closed in 30 3/5 to win by 4 1/4 lengths over Current News (Allan Davis). Tiny Tiara (Tony Morgan) was the third-place finisher.
Trained by Joe Carroll, Hs Judy Jetson is a daughter of Great George Two who was bred and is owned by Cary Grady. Unraced as a rookie, she has a record of 3-2-0 from seven starts this year, and she has earned $45,500. She was the 9-5 favorite and paid $5.80 to win.
In the final for colt and gelding pacers, Owzitgoin (Montrell Teague) shot through from the pole position to take the field to the 27 4/5 opening quarter and 57 2/5, but he was nose-and-nose with Trump That Rusty (Eddie Davis Jr.) at the 1:25 1/5 three-quarters. Trump That Rusty forged his way to the top just past that marker, and it was over from there as he reported home 3 3/4 lengths to the good in a 1:54 1/5 effort. Owzitgoin wound up second, with Rockin The Shades (Russell Foster) third.
A gelded son of Rusty's For Real, Trump That Rusty is owned by trainer Dylan Davis and partner Jeffrey Billings. Trump That Rusty is now a five-time winner in his racing career, and he has put away $92,584. Sent off as the 9-5 second choice, he also returned $5.80 to win.
