Ocean Downs: Analysis for Sunday 5/24

Pretty solid 13-race card at the Ocean on this holiday weekend. Here's some opinions for tonight.

Race 4: NW2501 in last 4 starts Pace

(6) ROCK THE CAPTAIN N arrives from Pennsylvania where he's been facing $20,000 claimers at Philly and Pocono, the same price he was claimed for back in March, without much success. Needless to say he'll appreciate the class relief as he switches to the smaller oval, and driver Jonathan Roberts selects him over three others. (1) ROCKTAVIUS paced a big back half in his Rosecroft finale and that's three good efforts in a row; big player from the rail. (7) LUCKATTHEBEACH won here four times in nine starts at Ocean last year; tough post.

Race 7: Winners over $5,000 in last 4 starts or $100,000 lifetime Pace

(2) ACT FAST is an interesting entrant here - spent his entire career with the Burke barn and earned over $600,000 in the process but now the 6-year-old makes his second start for new connections, the live Michael Hall barn with top driver Roberts. Perfect spot to turn things around after some tough trips facing better. (3) TOP GENIUS has finished second three of his last four facing $35K claimers at Harrington and should be well-classified here.

Race 13: NW1001 in last 4 starts Pace

(2) MANACCOUNT doesn't have much form recently but neither do the rest of these. This veteran pacer has won at Ocean Downs in the past and he gets a driver change to 18-year-old Ryder Skinner, who won a race here the other night. Maybe the fresh (and young) set of hands can wake him up. (5) WATCHMAKER recently arrived from the Maritimes and likely benefitted from that initial trip at Rosecroft for his new connections.
