Obviously to train up to Breeders' Cup Mile

DEL MAR, Calif. – Obviously, who finished fourth on Sunday as the favorite in the Del Mar Mile after breaking poorly, came out of the race in good condition and will be trained straight into the Breeders’ Cup Mile, without a prep, trainer Phil D’Amato said Tuesday.
“That was the original plan before the race, and just because he didn’t win, I don’t want to change,” D’Amato said. “He runs well fresh, and he loves Santa Anita. I know we can have him ready to run his best race off the bench.”
Obviously turned his head to the side just as the gate opened Sunday, causing him to get off poorly and then rush to the front. After setting blistering fractions of 22.20 seconds, 45.32, and 1:09.42 for the first six furlongs, he tired and finished 2 1/4 lengths behind the victorious Tom’s Tribute.
Obviously finished fifth in last year’s Breeders’ Cup Mile and third in 2012. Both races were won by two-time Horse of the Year Wise Dan.
