OBS under-tack preview concludes for June sale of 2-year-olds and horses of racing age
The under-tack preview show for the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co.’s June sale of 2-year-olds in training and horses of racing age, which concludes the market’s sales calendar in North America, has a crowded leaderboard as 11 juveniles finished tied for the fastest furlong.
Fillies by City Zip, Ghostzapper, Malibu Moon, and More Than Ready and colts by Algorithms, Bourbon Courage, Chitu, Distorted Humor, Lea, Overdriven, and Sky Mesa worked a furlong, the traditional yardstick at 2-year-old sales, in 9 4/5 seconds on the Ocala Training Center's all-weather Safetrack surface throughout the five-session breeze show.
The City Zip filly, who is consigned by Mark White, as agent, is the first foal out of the winning Candy Ride mare Court Appeal, a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Mani Bhavan, Grade 2 winner Hear the Ghost, Grade 1-placed stakes winner Closing Bell, and stakes-placed Dattt Echo. Canadian champion Silken Cat, the dam of champion Speightstown, appears on the catalog page.
The Ghostzapper filly, consigned by de Meric Sales, as agent, is out of the Grade 3-winning Carson City mare Palanka City, who is the dam of three winners from as many starters. It is the family of Breeders' Cup Mile winner Royal Academy.
The Malibu Moon filly is consigned by Race Ready Sales, as agent. She is out of the stakes-placed War Pass mare Scooter Bird.
The More Than Ready filly, consigned by McKathan Brothers, as agent, is out of the Italian Group 3 winner Omaticaya. The Bernstein mare was also Group 2-placed in France. Omaticaya is out of a half-sister to multiple Group 1 winner Muhtarram, and Italian champion St. Hilarion also appears on the catalog page.
The colt by Algorithms is consigned by Whitman Sales, as agent. He is out of the winning Run Away and Hide mare Lignite, a half-sister to stakes winner Backdoor Kenny.
Maryland-based Bourbon Courage is one of a handful of this year's freshman sires to have already registered multiple winners. His bullet-working colt, consigned by Victory Stables, as agent, is the first foal out of the unraced Louis Quatorze mare Lulu Quatorze. This is the family of Grade 2 winner and multiple Grade 1-placed Signalman.
Chitu's first foals are 2-year-olds this season. His bullet-working colt, consigned by Vargas Sales, as agent, is out of the Pleasantly Perfect mare St Ballado's Lady, dam of a pair of winners from a pair of starters.
The Distorted Humor colt, who is also consigned by de Meric Sales, as agent, is out of the unraced Forestry mare Driven. She is the dam of four winners from five starters, including multiple stakes-placed Glamoride. Driven is a half-sister to stakes winner Out for a Spin, who is by Distorted Humor, as well as Grade 3-placed Wise Action and stakes producer We There Yet. It is the family of Grade 1 winner Home At Last.
Lea is also among this year’s freshman sires. His bullet-working colt, consigned by Harris Training Center, is the first foal out of the winning Good Journey mare Tanquerray.
Overdriven's bullet worker is from the penultimate crop by his sire, who was pensioned and gelded after five seasons at stud, and is now competing in the show ring. This colt, consigned by M R Racing, as agent, is out of the Buddha mare Lady Buddha, who has one winner from two starters.
The Sky Mesa colt is consigned by Golden Rock Thoroughbreds, as agent. He is out of the stakes-placed Broken Vow mare Serious Vow, making him a full brother to stakes-placed Rowdy Dylan.
A trio of juveniles tied for the fastest quarter-miles during the five-day breeze show. Colts by Daredevil, Dialed In, and Race Day all worked in 20 3/5 seconds. Daredevil and Race Day are also among this year’s freshman sires.
The Daredevil colt, who is consigned by Ciaran Dunne's Wavertree Stables, as agent, is the first foal out of the U S Ranger mare Bible, whose dam is a full sister to Grade 1 winner Corinthian and a half-sister to Grade 2 winner Desert Hero and stakes producer Triple Act. This is the family of Grade 1 winner Jade Robbery.
The Dialed In colt, consigned by Parrish Farms, as agent, is out of the winning In Excess mare Pure Refinement, a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Pure As Gold.
The Race Day colt, consigned by Hawks Nest LLC, as agent, is out of the Unbridled's Song mare Queen Brianna, a full sister to graded stakes winner and leading regional sire Rockport Harbor.
Among the smaller group of horses to work three furlongs, colts by More Than Ready and Ghostzapper tied for the fastest time, going in 32 3/5 seconds. The More Than Ready colt, consigned by C&J Stable, is out of the Street Cry mare Passionate Diva, whose dam is multiple graded stakes winner Roshani. The Ghostzapper colt is consigned by Gayle Woods, as agent for Eric A. Delvalle. He is out of the Grade 2-winning Tiznow mare Tizahit, making him a half brother to graded stakes winner Come Dancing.
One horse worked a half-mile at the breeze show, a Verrazano filly who went in 47 seconds flat. The filly, consigned by 30-30 Ranch, is out of the stakes-winning High Yield mare Barbette. Another 22 juveniles merely galloped during the breeze show.
