A $900,000 colt by Frosted led the session as the Ocala Breeders' Sales Co.'s spring sale of 2-year-olds in training reached its midway point Wednesday evening. OBS reported that 180 juveniles changed hands during the second of four sessions at its flagship sale for gross receipts of $23,468,000 on the day. In last year's second session, 191 horses sold for a total of $26,114,500. After Tuesday's opening session of the OBS spring sale was led by a $1.45 million Arrogate colt and posted an 8 percent session-to-session gain in average, Wednesday's average price dropped 5 percent from the comparable second session of the 2022 sale. The figures were $130,378 and $136,725, respectively. Wednesday's median dropped 13 percent, to $65,000 from $75,000. Tuesday's average was up 20 percent. The buyback rate in a selective marketplace has been up on both days. The figure finished at 21 percent on Wednesday, compared to 13 percent in the second session a year ago. The session-topping Frosted colt, like Tuesday's session-topping Arrogate colt, was purchased by bloodstock agent Donato Lanni, on behalf of Amr Zedan's Zedan Racing. The Frosted colt had distinguished himself by working a furlong in 9 3/5 seconds during last week's under-tack preview on the Ocala Training Center's all-weather Safetrack, one of four juveniles tied for the bullet at that distance. The colt, who was consigned by Longoria Training and Sales, as agent, is out of the Indian Charlie mare Handwoven, dam of two winners from three starters. Handwoven is a full sister to stakes-placed Auspicious, dam of stakes-placed Bobby Bo; and a half-sister to Grade 3-placed Flatter Than Me. Multiple graded stakes winner Scott's Scoundrel appears on the catalog page. For hip-by-hip results, click here. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
