OBS sale: Two juveniles breeze a furlong in 9 4/5 seconds

Joe Nevills|Apr 11, 2016

A pair of entries set the bar at the first day of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co. spring sale of 2-year-olds in training under-tack show, breezing one furlong Monday in 9 4/5 seconds.

The juveniles breezed over the Ocala Training Center’s all-weather Safetrack surface.

One of the fastest times came from a colt by Old Fashioned and out of the unplaced Gone West mare Scarlett, whose first foal to race is a winner. Bred in Kentucky by Ken Page, the gray or roan colt is from the family of Peruvian champion Ole Pegasus, Grade 3 winner Boundary, and graded-stakes-placed runners Spire, Happily Unbridled, and Stoic.

The colt was a $50,000 weanling purchase out of the 2014 Keeneland November breeding stock sale and finished under his reserve at last year’s OBS August yearling sale with a final bid of $67,000. He is consigned at the spring sale by Eisaman Equine as agent.

Also setting the co-fastest time was a Hard Spun filly out of the stakes-winning Storm Boot mare Shedoesrock, whose first foal to race is the Grade 2-placed stakes winner Amaranth. The bay filly was bred in Kentucky by Allen Poindexter and Machmer Hall and comes from the family of Dominican champion Varonesa de Cuatro.

A $130,000 purchase from last year’s Keeneland September yearling sale, the colt is consigned at this auction by Bobby Dodd as agent.

A filly from the first crop of Florida stallion Biondetti led the group of two-furlong workers, stopping the clock in 20 3/5 seconds.

The dark bay or brown filly is out of the unplaced Grand Slam mare Phanie Slam, whose two winners from three runners includes multiple stakes-placed Phaniebdancing. She was bred in Florida by Woodford Thoroughbreds and is consigned by that operation as agent.

The breeze show continues through Saturday, beginning each day at 8 a.m. Eastern. The OBS spring sale takes place April 19-22, starting at 10.30 a.m.
