OBS October yearling sale will be held Tuesday and Wednesday

Young Florida stallions from a classic sire line get a chance to gain a foothold in their local market when the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co. hosts its October yearling sale next week.
This sale, which traditionally has a catalog dominated by Florida-breds, has been on an upswing since OBS moved its annual yearling sale from August to October, beginning in 2017. The first October sale posted an average price of $20,001, compared to $16,712 in August 2016. Last year, the average price grew 10 percent to $21,965, as 434 yearlings sold for a total of $9,532,750.
This year's auction, with 646 yearlings cataloged including supplemental entries, is arranged into a select session, beginning at noon Eastern on Tuesday, and an open session, beginning at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

The catalog includes 10 yearlings from the first crop of Ride On Curlin and 14 by fellow first-crop Florida sire Jess's Dream, both by consistent classic sire Curlin.
Ride On Curlin, who was second in the 2014 Preakness, stands at Pleasant Acres Stallions. His yearlings in the OBS October catalog include a filly out of stakes-placed Improvised, the dam of stakes-placed Sandor the Hound.
Jess's Dream, the only son of Hall of Fame racemare Rachel Alexandra, won his only career start before retiring to Ocala Stud. His offspring in this catalog includes a filly out of stakes winner Calico Bay, a half-sister to stakes-placed Mambo Flyer, and a colt out of stakes-placed Love You Crazy.
