OBS March: Scat Daddy filly tops first breeze show

Joe Nevills|Mar 11, 2015

A Scat Daddy filly set a tough bar during Wednesday’s opening round of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co. 2-year-olds in training sale under-tack show, covering a furlong in : 9 3/5 seconds.

The chestnut filly was one of six juveniles to complete a one-furlong breeze under :10 seconds on Wednesday over the Ocala Training Center’s synthetic Safetrack surface.

Bred in Kentucky by Dr. Charles Giles, the filly is out of the stakes-winning End Sweep mare Global Finance, whose three winners from five foals to race includes stakes winner Prenuptial. She is from the family of Group 2 winner Montekin, and Grade 3 winner Mazaad.

The filly is consigned as agent by McKathan Bros., who also sent out the fastest main-track worker of the Fasig-Tipton Florida select 2-year-olds in training sale, an Uncle Mo colt who breezed a furlong in :10 seconds flat. The filly was purchased for $180,000 at last year’s Fasig-Tipton Kentucky July yearling sale.

A trio of colts turned in the fastest breezes over two furlongs, stopping the clock in :20 4/5 seconds. All three are consigned by Eddie Woods, agent.

One was a Midnight Lute colt, who is the first foal out of the winning Vindication mare Circumstance. His page includes Grade 2 winner Highland Park, and Grade 3 winner Lou Brissie. He was bred in Kentucky by Gaines-Gentry Thoroughbreds.

Another was a Summer Bird colt out of the unraced Not For Love mare Hawaiian Love, whose first foal to race is a winner. Bred in Virginia by Mrs. C. Oliver Iselin III, the colt’s extended family includes the multiple Japanese Group 1-placed Machikane Hokushin.

Also hitting the mark was a Kitten's Joy colt named Sky High Kitten out of the winning Sky Mesa mare Granny Broughton. Bred in Kentucky by Ken and Sarah Ramsey, the colt is a full brother to stakes-placed Broughton Kitten and hails from the family of Grade/Group 1 winners Eskendereya, and Balmont, as well as Grade 2 winner Blazonry.

It was the second straight major juvenile sale in which a son of Kitten's Joy turned in a notable time at the breeze show. A Kitten's Joy colt clocked the fastest furlong over the Gulfstream Park turf prior to the Fasig-Tipton Florida sale, going in :10 seconds flat.

The OBS March sale will be the colt’s third time through the auction ring, after bringing $32,000 as a weanling at the 2013 Keeneland November breeding stock sale, then selling for $110,000 at the 2014 Fasig-Tipton July sale.

The OBS March pre-sale under-tack show continues daily through Friday, March 13, beginning each day at 8 a.m. Eastern. The sale will be held March 17-18, starting each day at 11 a.m. Eastern.
