OBS March: Discreet Cat, Noonmark colts top Friday’s breeze show

Joe Nevills|Mar 13, 2015

A Discreet Cat colt clocked the fastest furlong of Friday’s Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co. pre-sale under-tack show, and tied the overall fastest time of the three-day proceeding, covering the distance in :9 3/5 seconds.

The bay colt is out of the stakes-winning Yes It’s True mare Truly Blushed whose first foal to race, the Hard Spun filly Truly Marie, is stakes placed. He is consigned by Top Line Sales, agent.

Bred in Kentucky by Glencrest Farm, the colt was purchased for $75,000 as a short yearling at the 2014 Keeneland January horses of all ages sale, then was pinhooked eight months later for $120,000 at the Keeneland September yearling sale.

The colt equaled the fastest time over the Ocala Training Center’s all-weather Safetrack surface set on Wednesday by a Scat Daddy filly.

Bred in Kentucky by Dr. Charles Giles, the chestnut filly is out of the stakes-winning End Sweep mare Global Finance, whose three winners from five foals to race includes stakes winner Prenuptial. She is from the family of Group 2 winner Montekin, and Grade 3 winner Mazaad.

The filly is consigned as agent by McKathan Bros., who also sent out the fastest main-track worker of the Fasig-Tipton Florida select 2-year-olds in training sale, an Uncle Mo colt who breezed a furlong in :10 seconds flat. The filly was purchased for $180,000 at last year’s Fasig-Tipton Kentucky July yearling sale.

Friday’s breeze show also produced the fastest worker at two furlongs, with Bernie’s Prize, a Noonmark colt, getting the quarter-mile in :20 2/5 seconds.

Bernie’s Prize is the first foal out of the unraced Friends Lake mare Truss, and his page includes champion Shared Belief, Grade 2 winner Half Ours, Grade 3 winner Unicorn Kid, and stakes-placed sire Yankee Gentleman.

Bred in New York by Sequel Thoroughbreds, Hidden Lake Farm, and Elena Ahlschwede, the colt brought $60,000 at the 2014 Fasig-Tipton Midlantic fall yearling sale. He is consigned at the OBS March sale by Eddie Woods, agent.

The OBS March sale will be held March 17-18, beginning each day at 11 a.m. Eastern.
