OBS June finishes strong with sale-topping Into Mischief filly
Average and median price both finished up after three days of selling at the Ocala Breeders’ Sales June auction of 2-year-olds in training, generating a significantly higher gross on more horses sold, according to official sales results.
The average of $35,622 for 580 2-year-olds sold was a jump of 9.6 percent over the average price last year of $32,511 for 530 sold, with median jumping 13.3 percent, from $15,000 last year to $17,000 this year. Gross was up 20.7 percent, from $17.23 million last year to $20.66 million this year.
Three of the five top-priced horses sold on Friday, the final day of the three-day sale, led by an Into Mischief filly who brought $900,000 from Larry Best’s OXO Equine. The filly is out of the mare Rosemonde, making her a half-sister to the multiple stakes winner Miss Mischief. She ran a quarter-mile at the sale’s undertack show in 20 4/5 seconds.
The second-highest priced sale was a filly by Ghostzapper out of the Tiznow mare Tizahit, sold for $600,000 to Donato Lanni as agent. She was consigned by Gayle Woods, as agent for Eric Delvalle, who purchased the horse as a yearling at the Keeneland September sale for $67,000. She worked three furlongs in 32 2/5 seconds at the under-tack show.
Driven by the two top-priced horses, average on the final day of the sale was up 30.9 percent, from $31,828 to $41,694, while median was up 30.7 percent, from $13,000 last year to $17,000 this year.
Following the third session, OBS held the horses-of-racing-age portion of the sale, selling eight horses for $65,700, for an average of $8,213 and a median of $9,000.
