O'Brien scores double in Italy

Trainer Aidan O'Brien served notice that his horses have all pistons firing on the eve of the Breeders' Cup when he won both of the Group 1 races at the Capannelle in Rome on Sunday.

Black Sam Bellamy, sacrificed as High Chaparral's pacesetter in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe on Oct. 6, came again to defeat Italian Oaks winner Guadalupe by a short neck in the 1 1/2-mile Group 1 Gran Premio del Jockey Club & Coppa d'Oro. Spartacus, seventh behind stablemate Hold That Tiger in the Group 1 Grand Criterium at Longchamp, took the one-mile Group 1 Gran Criterium by three lengths over Checkit.
