Oaklawn: Spanish Glitter shines
HOT SPRINGS, Ark. - Spanish Glitter became the first favorite to win a stakes this meet at Oaklawn Park when she rolled to a 5 3/4-length win in the $50,000 American Beauty Stakes at 4-5. Southern Tour rallied for second, 1 1/4 lengths clear of third-place finisher Sweet And Firm.
In three previous stakes this meet, favorites had failed.
Spanish Glitter broke sharply in the six-furlong race for fillies and mares, and led the field through an opening half-mile in 45.40 seconds while under pressure from Naturalingredients. She drew off through the stretch, covering the distance over a fast track in 1:10.80.
Ridden by James Lopez, Spanish Glitter returned $3.60. The American Beauty was her 11th win from 20 career starts, and the $30,000 she earned pushed her bankroll to $417,600. Spanish Glitter races for Fred Kissling and is trained by Bernie Flint.
