HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Sea N Suds swung off the fence in the stretch and was just up in time to win a three-way photo in the $75,000 Rainbow Stakes at Oaklawn Park on Sunday. He edged Devilishly Clever by a neck, while it was a nose farther back to He Is a Roadster in third. The Rainbow, a six-furlong race, was restricted to 3-year-olds bred in Arkansas. The purse for the race was boosted this year from last meet’s $60,000. Sea N Suds ($10) broke with the field and settled into a stalking position behind He Is a Roadster and The Arkansan, who dueled through an opening quarter in 22.25 seconds. Sea N Suds advanced as He Is a Roadster took the field to the quarter pole, with the eventual winner moving off the rail in the stretch and digging in to catch the pacesetter and Devilishly Clever. Glenn Corbett rode the winner for trainer Kelly Von Hemel. Sea N Suds was making the third start of his career, following a fifth-place finish in a maiden special weight for statebreds in his debut Jan. 16 at Oaklawn and a win at the same level at the track Feb. 15. He covered the six-furlong distance of the Rainbow in 1:12.05. “We thought he’d run good today, and he did,” Von Hemel said. “Each time we’ve done something with the colt, he’s just gotten better.” Von Hemel trains Sea N Suds for Sunset Stables. The horse is a son of the Hennessy stallion Primary Suspect and was bred by Rickey Smith. Von Hemel trained the horse’s dam, the El Corredor mare Miss Brown Eyes, for Sunset Stables.
