Oaklawn: Apropos outclasses American Beauty rivals

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. - Apropos remained perfect over the Oaklawn racing surface on Saturday, when she darted to a 3 1/4-length win over Boss Barney’s Babe in the $100,000 American Beauty. It was another neck back in third to Ms Anna Destiny.
Apropos ($4.40), who is now 3 for 3 at Oaklawn, was always prominent in the American Beauty. She settled about a length off pacesetter Hurricane Girl, who reeled off fractions of 23.04 seconds for the opening quarter and 46.93 for the half-mile. Apropos overtook that rival at the top of the stretch and went on to cover six furlongs on a track rated fast in 1:11.43.
“She had too much class,” said winning rider Ricardo Santana, Jr.
Al Stall Jr., trains Apropos for her breeders, Claiborne Farm and Adele Dilschneider.
Apropos won an Oaklawn allowance on Jan. 12 in her start preceding the American Beauty. In her other local appearance, she was a 10-length allowance winner at Oaklawn last March. Apropos is a 5-year-old daughter of First Samurai who was bred in Kentucky.
Apropos earned $60,000 for the win Saturday, her fifth from nine career starts. She has now banked $220,433.
