Oak Grove: Road to Trotting Derby & Oaks adds two Breeders Crown winners

Two standout two-year-old trotters added to their spectacular seasonal resumes by capturing the $700,000 Grade 1 Breeders Crown finals on Friday, October 23 at Eldorado Scioto Downs, further cementing their dominance on the Road to the 2027 Oak Grove Trotting Derby and Oaks.

In the colt division, Wrong Sounds Right secured another automatic qualifying berth for the 2027 $500,000 Oak Grove Trotting Derby by winning the Breeders Crown 2-year-old colt trot. Driven by Todd McCarthy for trainer Jim Campbell, Wrong Sounds Right set a world record of 1:51 3/5 in his victory. The colt, with season earnings of $948,750, is owned and bred by Runthetable Stables.

In the filly division, Birr Castle earned her third automatic qualifying spot in the eliminations to the 2027 $300,000 Oak Grove Trotting Oaks by capturing the Breeders Crown for two-year-old trotting fillies. Driven by Scott Zeron for trainer Marcus Melander, Birr Castle stormed through the stretch to win by one length in a track-record 1:53. She is a homebred owned by Pheasant Hill Farm's Ed Lohmeyer and Dr. Patty Hogan and now has season earnings of $866,786.

The “Road to...” series was established to reward top two-year-old trotting performances and enrich Oak Grove’s premier events. A series of designated Grand Circuit and Sire Stakes races serve as automatic qualifying events to the Derby and Oaks eliminations.
